5 great games to look forward to before the end of 2010

With 2010 coming to a close in less than a month and you may be wondering if there are any games can look forward too before 2011 rolls in. Have a look at a list of 5 great games that you can still get excited about before we welcome 2011.

Tron Evolution

Tron Evolution is set for release on 7 December for both PS3 and Xbox. It’s a tie in game for the movie that is coming out at the same time. Usually movie tie in games serve nothing more than to let us down, especially when they are tied in with an awesome movie but Tron: Evolution actually looks pretty good.

Why you should be excited

Tron: Evolution is a sequel and a prequel at the same time because it bridges the gap between the original 1982 film and the upcoming sequel. It’s a third person action adventure game (similar to Assassins Creed or Prince of Persia), filled with daring climbs and leg breaking combat. For those lucky enough to have a 3D TV, you’ll be glad to know the Tron features 3D support.

Where it’s going to shine

Tron features multiplayer support which could turn out to be the best part of the game. You can compete in deathmatch style grid games and take part in light cycle (using light trails to box your opponents in) based events. Best of all, you will get to take part in team based multiplayer games and there is nothing better than suiting up with your mates.

Marvel Pinball

While we are not usually pinball fans at 8bitbot, Marvel Pinball (7 December on Xbox and 14 December on PS3) has managed to turn our heads. The game lets you put your best pinball skills to use across four different tables (Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man and a Blade table) in an adventure to save the world from a host of notorious super villains.

Why you should be excited

The game is powered by the spectacular Pinball FX 2 engine developed by Zen studios with new features like – local multiplayer and the ability to tweak the table settings so it’s are just the way you like it. Each hero table features the villains from his universe, so Spider-Man will come eye to eye with Doc Octopus, while Wolverines battles fiendish enemies like Sabretooth and Sentinel…

Where it’s going to shine

Magnificent explosions and two player local co-op is going to see you spending many hours saving the world and with four great Superhero tables to choose from you have your work set out for you.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam (21 December) is the upcoming expansion pack which takes place in the Vietnam war. The pack will be available for download on December 21 via Xbox live and the PSN. The pack features 4 new maps, 6 new vehicles and 15 new weapons which is a a lot to look forward to. It’s almost adds an entire new game to one that is already highly entertaining.

Why you should be excited

One of the new weapons to be feared is the flamethrower which is a great close combat clearing weapon. The new maps bring with them some interesting idea’s because while they may appear to be open, there are in-fact many crisscrossing paths and being Vietnam there are plenty of tunnels and many alternate routes to a particular destination. This will balance the attack area’s as you’ll never really know where the next shot is coming from.

Where it’s going to shine

The pack brings some changes to the way the game is played the most notable of which is the absence of scopes for other classes. No more SMG ACOG scopes for Engineers, no more assault riffles with sniper scopes and no more red dot sites for medics. These changes are going to even to playing field so beginners will have more of a chance against the tried and tested veterans.

Back to the Future

Although there was the movie and two great sequels, its never felt like quite enough, given how much fun Back to the Future was to watch. Now you have the chance to take a ride through time in the Delorean once again, with the game that is a continuation of the story and takes place six months from where the third film ended.

Why you should be excited

Spread across 5 episodes this game continuation of the film will take our hero’s Marty and Doc on a new adventure through time, on a mission to save the space time continuum itself. Bob Gale (co-producer of the firms) lends his hand to the game while Christopher Lloyed makes a return as the voice of Doc Brown.

Where it’s going to shine

The developers at Telltale have created a unique look for the game with a less realistic and more stylised approach to the graphics. Added to the look is the completely original story and because Bob Gale is involved we can be sure it’s going to remain authentic and no doubt, highly entertaining.

The Agency

The Agency is Sony’s new MMO shooter and will be available on PC and PS3. If you have ever wondered what the life of a jet-setting super spy was like then you are probable going to want to take a look at this game. Players will get to choose between two agencies; one based on stealth and one based on assault depending on how you wish to pursue the game.

Why you should be excited

The game is going to be a realistic shooter, primarily based on skill, so a head shot will be a one shot kill while it’ll take a few more body shots to drop an enemy. RPG elements will also come into play in improving your characters effectiveness that can be built up as you play. The game also has a user-interface that has been streamlined so that the game plays more like a shooter and increases the ease with which you interact with the environment and manage your inventory.

Where it’s going to shine

Players can change rolls at anytime by simply changing the gear that they wear. This is great and saves the hassle of creating a new character for a different class. Missions can be tackled solo or together with up to eight man teams. A players enemy detection works for the entire group and each class will have something that benefits the team as a whole – A commander will heal near by Allies for example and as a result a well balanced team will have a distinct advantage over a class heavy bunch.
