5 great reasonably priced Zombie games for the iPhone

Zombie action on the iPhone is better than ever before and if you love blood and gore and even a bit of humour then this is the post for you. We’ve been playing iPhone Zombie games non-stop in a post-apocalyptic effort to find the best ones at a reasonable price.  Take a look at what we think are the top 5 zombies games at reasonable price for the iPhone.

1. Pro Zombie Soccer

While the entire planet went nuts over the world cup Chillingo and Super Awesome Hyper Dimension decided to take advantage of the soccer craziness with Pro Zombie Soccer. The game is a tower defender and you play as one character that must use a soccer ball to explode the hordes of attacking zombies.

The game can be played with one hand by sliding your thumb to aim and releasing to kick the ball. The longer you hold the more powerful the attack. The ball does not have to be aimed directly at the zombies and be bounced off walls and even other zombies. The blood levels are high with each strike yielding a rather satisfying splat all over the street.

The game has a basic story but my favorite bit is the very cool cartoon style art thats possible better a good few console games.. It cost $0.99 and is a 85.6MB download. iTunes Link.

2. Plants vs. Zombies

Plants Vs Zombies is a tower defense game where you have to defend your suburban house from masses of brain craving zombies creeping onto your lawn by using nothing but plants. You have to strategically plant seeds to hold them off to save your brain from becoming a zombie kebab.

You have a range of pretty awesome greenery at your disposal such as, Peashooters, Potato bombs, Melon-Pults and Hypno-Shrooms, all of which can be used in combination to trip, slow down and even explode zombies. At the start of each round you get to pick your arsenal of seeds and as the game progresses you get the chance to buy more seed slots as well as new plants.

Plants vs. Zombies gets progressively harder, moving from the font yard to the back yard with a swimming pool, through to night and eventually to the roof of your house. It’s a classic and if you own an iPhone you are pretty much obligated to own this game. It cost a $0.99 and is a 43MB download. iTunes Link.

3. Zombie Shock

Zombie Shock is an action/adventure, side scrolling game set in a distraught New York City. This game is all about running for your life and doing your best to shoot the crazed zombie masses that are out to get you. It’s frantic and fast with some really nice graphics.

You play Abel, a young and brilliant doctor who has just discovered a cure for cancer. You are contract by the military to work on a top secret project called FEAR and as events start to spiral out of control after an outbreak has turned New York into the city of the undead. The story is told through comic style cut scenes between each stage and if you manage to survive each chase you get closer to the truth.

There are a whole range of guns that you get to use on the rotting living corpses that are just dying to get their grimy hands on you. My best part of this game is the cheesy zombie sound that growls as you start it, a nice touch. It cost $1.99 and is a 46.6MB download. iTunes Link.

4. ZombieSmash

ZombieSmash takes us back to the genre of Tower Defense mayhem. In this game you play the finger of god so to speak because your job is to flick away the maggot filled undead that are attacking your humble farmhouse. ZombieSmash is a new concept because it’s built to take advantage of the touch interface of the iPhone.

Zombies can be flung and smashed into the ground like floppy ragdolls with only your finger, yes it does make you feel powerful. If that’s not enough bone crushing fun for you there are items like bombs and rocks that can be dropped and tossed at the zombies too.

As you kill zombies you earn stars and the stars can be used to purchase upgrades. Once you have a few weapons racked up you can use them in creative combinations with your finger to wreak as much havoc as you could possibly muster. It cost $1.99 and is a 28.9MB download. iTunes Link.

5. Zombie Wonderland

In Zombie Wonderland you play the most unlikely of hero’s, Chuck a handyman for hire and your job is to prevent the town’s local lifeless rot from entering a range of different premises. You can board up windows and use your trusty shotgun to spill guts. The downside is that you have to clean up your mess before morning (who ever said that exploded zombies where mess free?), delivering a spanking digs to the owner the next day.

The game is fun in short bursts and has 20 different locations to defend, from a bar to a cemetery office. The fun bit is the perspective that you play from, seeing the action happen from above the building, in almost a schematic type layout. You can spin and change the pitch of your camera to make sure you have every angle covered.

Zombie Wonderland is a multi-dimensional take on the genre. You have to defend, clean and watch the timer ticking away to dawn and juggling all three is fun and challenging. It cost $0.99 and is a 44MB download. iTunes Link.
