Uncharted: Drakes Fortune

Released in 2007 and developed by Naught Dog, a studio that is arguably made up of the best game development talent in the world. Uncharted was the game that showed the world what the Playstation 3 was capable of. The game looks stunning and has a superbly told story as we follow it’s protagonist, Nathan Drake an Indiana Jones / Han Solo recreation through all the twists and turns of a treasure hunters adventure.

Uncharted is a game not to be missed and if you’ve played it before it’s worth a revisit if for nothing else than Drakes swarve, witty humor. If you have time on your hands, we highly recommend playing Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and moving directly onto the sequel; Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for a truly awesome gaming marathon.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Released in 2008 and developed by the great Kojima Productions, the 4th iteration in the Metal Gear Solid saga blew gamers away with it’s gripping story, spectacular images and epic cut-scenes. The game puts you in the shoes of Snake, well old Snake to be exact and relies heavily stealth and CQC combat techniques. It actually promotes the subduing of enemies over killing them, something fresh and new and has not been repeated since.

Metal Gear Solid 4 set a new standard in game development and design and was one of the first to fill an entire Playstation 3 blu-ray disk. Hideo Kojima, the games writer and co-director said that he actually need more space to add everything he wanted. Playing the game now would also give you a refresh on the story before playing the next adventure from Kojima Productions, Metal Gear Solid: Rising which due out next year.

Bioshock

Released in 2007 for Windows and Xbox 360, finally making it’s way to the Playstation 3 almost a year later in 2008. Bioshock is a first person horror shooter set in the underwater city of Rapture. The games art decor, 1960′s theme is one of a kind and is visually spectacular. Thrust into a dystopian city filled with gone mad rich people, makes for an interesting story that is genuinely scary to play.

Bioshock is so visually appealing that you will find yourself just staring out a  window into the dark expanse of the deep ocean that surrounds Rapture. Revisit the game will also get you excited about it’s sequel, Bioshock 2 that continues the story from a different perspective which is just as exciting as the first.

Little Big Planet

Released in 2008 and developed by Media Molecule, Little Big Planet is probably the greatest social game ever developed, with it’s revolutionary feature being the ability to create game levels yourself and share them with the rest of the world. Little Big Planet has a quirky story that is fun to play through but it’s real strength lies in the creativity of fellow gamers and the endless levels they have created.

If you do not own it already, it is now available for download in the PSN at a price far less than it was on launch day. The game can be played with up 4 players locally or online or even mixed. Little Big Planet 2 is set to arrive in November so it would be a good time to play the original through one last time.

  1. I still have yet to finish LBP. A while ago I started playing this again with my friend and while it’s enjoyable, it never really “grabbed me” the way I thought it would. MGS4, now there’s a game that’s been begging for a trophy patch for ages now.
