Epic shows off Unreal Engine 3 on iPad/iPhone

So I’m sure most iDevice enthusiasts and Apple fans have seen John Carmack’s demonstration of his Rage engine running on an iPhone 4 during this year’s QuakeCon. Whether it was actually running at 60 fps as he claimed or not, it was quite an impressive display and gave us just a glimpse of what Apple’s little big machines are capable of.

Now, a couple of weeks later, Epic drops this: a portable version of their Unreal Engine 3 running on iPads and iPhones. Supporting a wide range of current gen bells and whistles it looks frighteningly close to what we see in games on home consoles these days.

Developed in about eight weeks, this tech demo of the Unreal Engine 3 allows you to explore a castle using two virtual analog sticks similar to some current first-person games on the iPad. The demo allows you to walk around and view the glorious bump mapped stone buildings and watch as birds fly overhead as flags cast dynamic shadows on walls. Truly awesome!

In the following video the guys from tested.com quickly ran it to show it in action, but you can download it from the App Store and try it yourself ! Hit the link here to download and watch the video while you wait.
